Charity
The IRS term for a charity is a "qualified organization."
To find out if a charity is qualified:
- Check IRS
Publication 78 on the IRS web site where you can also search for qualified
organizations
- Check GuideStar,
where you can access nonprofit organizations in a national database
- Ask the charity to provide you with proof of
their status
- Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to find out if a charity is qualified
